Flood installation - Chorlton Arts Festival 2011

A tree by the side of Chorlton Brook was transformed into a giant flood gauge knitted from copper wire and wool, marking the levels of floods in Chorlton, 1964; Sheffield, 2007; Cockermouth, 2009; and Pakistan, 2010. Local residents and energy campaigners were invited on a flood walk and talk through Chorlton, showing which parts of the area were vulnerable to flooding according to the Environment Agency and providing an opportunity to discuss and reflect on responses to the greater likelihood of flooding due to climate change.
